"Katawa Shoujo" is a bishoujo visual novel that was released on the 4th of January, 2012. I'd first heard about the game just a few weeks before its release date. It astounded me to learn that people had started working on it as early as January 2007. This wasn't a typical release by a centalized studio; the development team of this game was made up of people all around the world, who've probably never seen each other face-to-face. To think that a group like this had managed to release such a professional-looking game; I was undoubtedly intrigued. At first, I thought it would be just your regular eroge. Boy, was I wrong.
Maybe it's because the game's been made by people just like me; amateur creators looking to spread their work all over the Internet. Maybe this "homegrown" quality that it has has biased my feelings towards it. I don't care what it is. The game deeply affected me. The first route I played was Lilly's [I got the good end at the first go, yay!], and I still remember how amazed I was. This was something special.
This led me to want to do something too. Not at the same scale, of course, but a little something. To show my appreciation, perhaps.
I really don't know what it is.
All I know is that it's a magnificent game that makes you... think about things.
This release is aimed to act as a sort of a cross between a tribute and a companion piece to my two favourite characters from the game: Lilly and Hanako.
I hope you enjoy it.
Thank you, Four Leaf Studios, for crafting this gem.
